In a war torn, alternative future, giant mechs called jaegers are humanities last defence against enormous monsters coming out of a breach in the Pacific ocean. The jaeger pilots are rock stars and humanity is doing pretty well for itself (those smug bastards). It all goes Pete Tong when the government decides to scrap this vital, publicly funded health service, in favour of wasting billions on grand, but ultimately innefectual initiatives paid for by taxing people into poverty (which is how you know this is a fantasy!)
