#86 - No Country For Old Men

Today we tell the story of a murderous, bowl haired assassin with a penchant for bolt gunning people, who makes his way across America, bolt gunning the locks off doors so that he can kill Thanos and Carnage whilst the whole time, K from Men In Black laments the fact he's gotten really old. In classic Coen brothers style, they get in late and get out early, leaving a lot of people feeling disappointed with the way this one ends but if you're a fan of dog murder, people murder and a Burn After Reading style, short lived A-lister, then this could be the film for you. And if you don't like it, we'll come round to your house and bolt gun your goddamn doors off as this week, the Wreckfast Club presents: No Country for Old Men

Dune | Bonus Episode

Hey there Wreckfast Club members! We're back with another Wreckfast Club reaction as we recently went to see the new Dune film. As always, the first half of our reaction is spoiler free and then we clearly indicate the spoiler section of the reaction for anyone who hasn't seen the film. Worth mentioning the spoiler section also contains one spoiler for No Time to Die as well as spoilers for Casablanca, Citizen Kane and The Sixth Sense 

#85 - Grosse Pointe Blank

If you've not seen this film before, you need to rectify that immediately. On the surface of it, it's a story about an assassin who returns to his home town to attend his high school reunion. But more than that, it's a darkly funny, seemingly improvised and star studded film that defies genre and makes sympathetic characters out of assholes. It also stars the always wonderful combination of John and Joan Cusack alongside Dan Akroyd and Minnie Driver. The dialogue is honestly insane, the set pieces are ridiculous (John Cusack trying to drip poison down string into someone's mouth only to fail and end up stabbing them to death? A fistfight with a melting man against a backdrop of school lockers?) and the characters are all quirky wierdos. It's a whole lot of fun as this week the Wreckfast Club presents, bing bing bing bing bang, popcorn: Grosse Point Blank!

We're journeying up to the Highlands today for an animated tale about scotch people and bears. A wayward young princess struggles to get on with her mum like a lot of teenage girls and their mums, and just like those teenage girls and their mums, they bond by one turning the other into a bear and then training them to live as a bear and then deciding they don't want a bear, they actually want a mum. Tale as old as time. Or utter fucking nonsense, you decide, as this week the Wreckfast Club presents: Brave

The you're gonna die bit probably still stands though because something smarter, faster, invisibler and more kitted out than you is on the loose, picking off team-mates one-by-one and ripping out their spines for trophies like its some kind of school sports day. More like 'dead' and spoon race, am I right? #82 - Arachnophobia

Get ready for kooky, kitsch, shlock horror as we delve into the world of creepy crawlies. Starring Dumber from Dumb and Dumber and John Goodman from 'being the best damn human ever made' and the Flintstones, this 90s curiosity piece doesn't get the love it deserves! When aggressive, deadly spiders inadvertently make their way to small town America, it's up to the new doctor, an enthusiastic exterminator and a little bitch science man to team up and squash some bugs. Featuring one of the greatest fully grown, human man vs. Spider fights ever committed to camera (where said man resorts to molotov cocktails and flaming bolt guns), the tongue is firmly in cheek throughout. If you weren't scared of hairy, eight legged, million eyes, mandible wielding creatures that can enter your house at will before hand, you certainly will be after the Wreckfast Club presents: Arachnophobia!

#81 - IT:Chapter One

Want a highly questionable coming of age drama disguised as a horror film about an immortal, inter-planar clown? Want all the hallmarks of a Stephen King novel, like horror in the mundane, external demons representing internal ones and an unhealthy obsession with genitalia? Or just want to spook yourself silly this Halloween? Whatever you're after, this film has got IT. Kids get eaten, witty dialogue is traded, many of the more questionable acts from the book get inexplicably left out. It's one of the films that took horror to a new level and then the sequel kind of took it back down again, but we're not worried about that because today, the Wreckfast Club presents: IT - Chapter One
